Deepak Chahar's Pursuit Of Pace Can Be An Alarming Adventure For The Quick - A Discussion

Deepak Chahar in his latest interview has talked about how he is focusing on increasing his pace, Ideally someone blessed with the capability of bowling close to 140 kays an hour, Chahar is now eyeing those extra five kilometres in an hour that can be the game-changer according to him.

However, let’s face facts, is it only pace that changes the gameplay for a fast bowler who is bowling with the new ball? Of course it is but it is also believed that it is just one aspect of the game. More than your speeds it is the line and length, it is the ability to package your deliveries rightly and eventually figure out the perfect variations at the right time that would get the job done.

If we take a closer look at Chahar’s bowling, then we would know that he is someone who is capable of making the ball move significantly well. And more importantly, his wicket-taking knack is an absolute crackerjack with the new ball. He also mixes his deliveries really well enough and that makes him a perfect fit for starting the bowling unit.

But how good will increasing his pace make him? This is a question that will need answers. In IPL 2022, Mohammed Siraj went onto win the award for the fastest delivery of the match quite a few times. But then as numbers would have it, he was whacked left, right and center by the batters. That proves one fact that if you are going to increase your pace, it should gradually come with it.

Also another important thing that Deepak Chahar must keep in mind is he is extremely injury prone. For a fast bowler one of the major challenges is to keep himself fit. Truth be told, unless Deepak Chahar gets that drilled into his mind, increasing pace will only be aggravating the risks of another injury. It has to be done under the vigilant eye of a fixed bowling coach.

Obviously the return of Deepak Chahar will be crucial to Team India considering the fact that the T20 World Cup is around the corner. His batting ability makes it slightly easier for the Indian cricket team to take him in their echelons. But if he gets injured again, that is hitting the poleaxe onto his own foot.

Deepak Chahar said, “I’ve missed 2 T20 World Cups because of my injuries, if I was fully fit I would’ve been a part of the World Cup team as well. There’s always a requirement for a bowler who can bat at No.7-9, I’ve done that and scored runs for India”. (PTI). pic.twitter.com/zM7d5lHXru
