Dhruv Jurel has made a big splash in his first two Test matches for India, drawing comparisons to the great MS Dhoni. But Dhruv’s dad, who bravely served in the army during the Kargil War, thinks it’s not fair to compare his son to Dhoni, who won the World Cup twice.
When Dhruv Jurel was scoring that impressive 90 runs in the second innings of the fourth Test in Ranchi, his father must have been bursting with pride. Jurel’s innings came when the Indian batsmen were struggling, facing a big collapse and heading towards a possible embarrassing defeat.
Dhruv Jurel’s Father Opens Up On Son’s Comparisons With MS Dhoni
Dhruv Jurel displayed his inner strength and courage, proving that he’s inherited the spirit of a warrior. He showed remarkable determination and patience as he faced the challenges of the difficult pitch during his innings. Despite being just 23 years old, he played a crucial role in the fourth innings of the match. He teamed up with Shubman Gill to help India successfully chase down a target of 192 runs, securing their 17th consecutive series win in red-ball cricket.
Jurel was named the Man of the Match for his outstanding performances and received praise from Sunil Gavaskar, who likened him to the next MS Dhoni. Gavaskar also commended the youngster for his skillful wicketkeeping, clever batting, and smart game understanding.
Speaking to Jio Cinema, Sunil Gavaskar had said: “Of course he has batted well, but his keeping, his work behind the stumps has been equally brilliant. Just by looking at his game awareness, I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making. I know there can never be another MSD but you know the presence of mind that he has, MSD also when he started, it was that. And Jurel has that game awareness. Street-smart cricketer.”
Sunil Gavaskar’s comments caused a split in the Indian cricket community, with many players urging the 74-year-old to refrain from making such comparisons. Sourav Ganguly was the most vocal one who stated: “It took MS Dhoni 20 years to be MS Dhoni. So just let him play,”
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with News18, Dhruv Jurel’s father mentioned that he prefers not to compare his son to MS Dhoni. However, he expressed that if Dhruv can emulate Dhoni’s achievements, he would be extremely pleased and proud. Speaking to News18, Dhruv’s father said:
“I would not like to compare. Because MS Dhoni is such a big Superstar. He won ICC Trophies and won Two World Cups for India. But I feel happy when Cricket Legends are saying Dhruv can become like Dhoni in the future for India,”
