Jurel made his debut for the Indian cricket team in the 3rd Test match, however, his standout performance came during the Ranchi Test. In the first innings, Dhruv played a crucial innings of 95 runs, steering the team closer to England’s target when they were in a precarious position.
Dhruv’s heroics didn’t end there as during the 2nd innings of the same match, Dhruv Jurel delivered yet another outstanding performance. With the team chasing the target, Dhruv played an unbeaten innings of 39 runs, guiding the Indian cricket team to victory. Dhruv Jurel’s contributions were particularly significant as he displayed sensibility and resilience under pressure, ultimately leading the Indian team to success.
Dhruv Jurel Responds To Sunil Gavaskar’s ‘Another MS Dhoni’ Remark
All thanks to his brilliant performances, Dhruv earned praise from all corners. From cricketers to fans, everyone hailed the young cricketer for his performance. Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar also hailed him for his performances and he even went on to compare Dhruv to former India captain MS Dhoni.
“Watching the presence of mind of Dhruv Jurel makes me think he’s the next MS Dhoni in the making,” Gavaskar said while doing the commentary during the Ranchi Test.
Dhruv Jurel has finally responded to Sunil Gavaskar’s praise by acknowledging that no one can replicate the legendary status of MS Dhoni. He emphasized his desire to forge his own path and identity, aspiring to become the best version of himself rather than trying to emulate someone else. Speaking during the India Today conclave, Jurel said:
“Thank you so much Gavaskar sir for comparing me with Dhoni sir. But I want to say personally that no one can replicate what Dhoni sir has done. There is only one Dhoni. Always was and always will be. For me, I just want to be Dhruv Jurel. Whatever I do, I want to do as Dhruv Jurel. But Dhoni sir is a legend and he will always remain like that.”
Furthermore, Dhruv Jurel expressed how the feeling of receiving the Test cap hasn’t sunk in and he wants to play the longest format of the game. Dhruv said that even though IPL is around, but he loves Test cricket. He said:
“It (getting the Test cap and getting the man of the match) hasn’t yet sunk in. It was a pleasure to play Tests, the purest form of cricket. I was sure that I would play Test cricket someday and it has been a dream come true moment for me. I always wanted to play Tests.”
He added: “When I was playing U-19, my goal was to play 200 Tests, which I later realised was not possible. (For me) IPL has not reduced the love for (Test) cricket. When I got the baggy cap (India Test cap), it was a different feeling altogether. There is no contest whatsoever (between the two). Test cricket is at a different level.”
