The Indian cricket team has been in a sensational role for last month. After defeating the England cricket team in the ODI and T20I series, the Indian side has thumped West Indies in one-day internationals and has taken a lead of 1-0 in the ongoing 5-match T20Is. And veteran keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik played a crucial role in the success of team India lately.
Dinesh Karthik gave credit to Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma
Dinesh Karthik was recalled to the Indian side after his exceptional performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2022. He gave brilliant performances with the bat, making some crucial cameos and scoring 330 runs from 16 outings. His finishing abilities and crucial cameos earned him a call from the Indian national cricket team.
DK was back in the national cricket team after almost three years and has once again managed to impress one and all with his sensational performances. On Friday, DK was declared the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 41 off 19 balls in the opening game of the ongoing T20I series.
After the game, DK gave credit to Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma for the team’s phenomenal run in international cricket.
Well, during an interaction with teammate Ravichandran Ashwin on BCCI.tv after India’s 68-run win against the Windies in the opening match, the spinner asked DK how different was the current India team set-up compared to when he started playing for the Men in Blue. Responding to this, he heaped praises on Dravid and Rohit Sharma for creating an amazing environment for the players. He said:
“Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid deserve alot of credit for maintaining such calmness around the team. I’m really enjoying in this setup,”
“I think it’s a very, very different team (compared to what he had seen in his journey over the years). I must admit I’m really enjoying the set-up.”
DK explained how Dravid and Rohit have created a comfortable environment
DK went on to explain why he is able to perform under Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid. He said:
“The kind of calmness that seems to be around this set-up in terms of the coach and captain, I think a lot of credit must go to both of them (Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid) because they have set up an atmosphere where they are dealing with failure in the most rational way possible, which I think is a lot of credit to them,”
He added: “They are bringing on board people that can help players try and beat themselves at their (game/skills). I think that was something that could have been missing before,”
Dinesh Karthik further added that a bad patch was something that was being taken very calmly in the current set-up of the Indian cricket team, with no one being singled out. He said:
“At times when I didn’t do well, I still felt I was treated the same way. The dressing room atmosphere was pretty calm and it was good. These are the small tick boxes that we need to have at this stage of the game,”
The second T20I game of the ongoing 5-match T20I series will take place on Monday, 1st August.
