Dinesh Karthik, who made his debut for the Indian cricket team 18-years-ago, made his captaincy debut and led the Men in Blue in a T20 warm-up match against Derbyshire on Friday. The veteran keeper-batter was handed the responsibility of the captaincy after the team management decided to rest Hardik Pandya.

In the absence of main players, a second-string squad led by Dinesh Karthik locked its horns against Derbyshire and he seemed on top of the world after making his captaincy debut.
On Saturday, Dinesh Karthik took to his social media and shared a heartfelt message on Twitter, expressing his feeling with a heartfelt Tweet. In his Tweet, he thanked everyone who has always supported him and expressed how he is proud of being a part of the Indian team. He wrote:

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time that Karthik has led a team as a captain. Dinesh Karthik is an experienced captain as he has previously led his state team, Tamil Nadu, and was also the captain of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for more than 2 years. Under his leadership, KKR qualified for the 2nd round of IPL 2018.
Talking about his captaincy stint for the Indian side, Karthik made a winning start to his captaincy career as the Indian side was able to chase down a total of 151 runs against Derbyshire. Sanju Samson played a knock of 38 runs and Deepak Hooda scored 59 off 37.
The finishing job was done by Suryakumar Yadav, who remained unbeaten on 36 off 22, along with captain Dinesh Karthik, who also remained unbeaten and scored 7 off 7 balls.
The Men in Blue will be next seen locking its horns against Northamptonshire in a warm-up match. DK will once again lead the Indian cricket team.
