England’s all-rounder Chris Woakes has been ruled out of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 with a side strain. Woakes, who imposed one and all with his bowling in the Indian Premier League 2017, was also rested for the third match of the recently concluded series between England and South Africa, is an important member of England’s squad.
Woakes picked up the injury during the tournament opener against Bangladesh at the Oval on Thursday (June 1) and left the field having bowled only two overs.
A statement from the ECB read: “A scan has confirmed that Chris Woakes sustained a left side strain in yesterday’s ICC Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh.
“The injury means Woakes will miss the rest of England’s participation in the Champions Trophy. An update on a replacement for the seamer for the remainder of the tournament will follow in due course.”
