The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma will be under immense pressure to win the World Cup this year as the tournament will take place in India. The Men in Blue have struggled in ICC competitions in recent years and have not won an ICC trophy since 2013. The last time they won an ODI World Cup was in 2011.
Rohit Sharma’s record as India’s captain hasn’t been impressive so far. Team India crashed out at the Super 4 stage in the Asia Cup and the semifinal stage in the T20 World Cup under his captaincy last year. A few months back, Rohit Sharma also failed to lead the team to victory in the World Test Championship final against Australia.
Injury issues to key players is one of the major reasons behind India’s struggle at the ICC events. However, Rohit Sharma is all set to have a very balanced and strong squad for World Cup 2023 and thus, he is expected to guide the team all the way.
Eoin Morgan Backed Rohit Sharma To Win In World Cup 2023

Meanwhile, former England captain Eoin Morgan, who led the team to World Cup win in 2019, showered praise on Rohit. Morgan believes Rohit Sharma has the ability to do so as well. He said that the captain commands a lot of respect from his teammates. He said”
“I have always been a fan of Rohit Sharma, the captain and leader. If you see, he has the ability to carry his team with him, and also has the team to do extremely well in the World Cup.”
He added:
“Having spoken to a number of players in his team, I know Rohit commands a lot of respect among the group and is a really good leader of men. Even when he wasn’t captain, I am sure he made a difference in the change room and was a key influence,”
Morgan Explained Virat Kohli’s Importance In The Team
Further, Eoin Morgan pointed out the importance of having a player like Virat Kohli in the dressing room. Morgan said that Kohli’s experience of winning the World Cup at home in 2011 will play a crucial role for the team. He said:
“Much like I think Virat Kohli is now in the change room, and that’s another major plus for India going into the World Cup. Kohli, who played and won the World Cup in 2011 on home soil, will make a major difference to Rohit in the Indian change room,”
He added: “Kohli is the player you don’t want to play on the big stage because he is someone who loves the big stage. The energy, build up, around big games & uses that to his advantage, there are few players who have the ability to do that”.
