‘Even Sachin Didn’t Have The Kind Of Influence On Mumbai As MS Dhoni Has On Chennai’: Joy Bhattacharjya

Indian sports producer and renowned quizzer Joy Bhattacharjya has given a massive statement about the influence of MS Dhoni on Chennai by comparing it with Sachin Tendulkar’s influence on the city of Mumbai.

MS Dhoni has been Chennai’s adopted son since 2008. He has led CSK to five IPL titles and two Champions League trophies, giving the fans countless memories of his batting, leadership, captaincy, wicket-keeping, and a lot of aura and sauce. Chennai adored Dhoni, who comes from Ranchi, and treats him as one of his known.

Joy Bhattacharjya, well renowned for his hot takes and astute analysis on the game, reckons even the great Sachin Tendulkar didn’t have the kind of influence on a particular city – his home city, Mumbai – as MS Dhoni has on his adopted city Chennai.

Speaking on Cricbuzz about the CSK captain, Bhattacharjya said, “We all are thinking this is maybe Dhoni’s last season, but that story has been going on for quite a while, and I hope that story doesn’t end in the near future. That’s the thing: the influence he has only a city, I have to say even Sachin didn’t have that kind of influence [on Mumbai] that the way Dhoni has on Chennai.”

Sitting beside him was Harsha Bhogle who spoke on parallel lines as Bhattacharjya’s views. Bhogle, a veteran cricket commentator, said Dhoni and Chennai are similar to Virat Kohli and Bangalore, before pointing out that Dhoni has delivered plenty of titles for CSK.

Bhogle said, “The only comparable is Kohli and RCB. Dhoni, because he has delivered so many title. That connection, yes, there hasn’t been a stronger connection in IPL.”

Bhogle expressed excitement at the fact that MS Dhoni is fitter this season having undergone knee surgery last year after the IPL.
