Last year in August, when India and West Indies played a T20I in Florida, a young lad named Evin Lewis replaced injured Chris Gayle and scored a spectacular hundred. After his forgettable T20I debut against Afghanistan, in which he scored a duck, it was Lewis’ big moment to make an impact.

In that game, Lewis, not only impressed one and all with his attacking display of batting, but also scored the fifth fastest century in Twenty20 Internationals against India. Lewis smash 5 consecutive sixes off Stuart Binny’s bowling and was unlucky to miss out on the last ball, which was a juicy full-toss.

In the 16th over bowled by Jadeja, Lewis knocked a flatter delivery to point to notch up his maiden hundred in just his second T20I match. It was his first T20I hundred and he chose a grand stage to announce his arrival.

11 months later, Lewis broke his own record of most sixes by a player against India in T20 International as he scored his second century in T20Is. Evin smashed monstrous sixes and made India’s bowling attack look very ordinary. Chasing a big total of 191 runs, Evin Lewis came out to bat with a very positive frame of mind and took the front seat overshadowing Chris Gayle, who was struggling to get going at the other end.

Lewis smashed 6 fours and 12 sixes in his unbeaten 62-ball knock of 125. He hit a maximum off every Indian bowler in his innings.

This is also the highest score by a West Indian in T20s. Not only that, this is also the highest score in chases and third highest in the history of T20Is.

Evin Lewis broke 3 records last night:

  • Highest individual score in a chase in T20Is
  • Highest individual score in T20Is for West Indies
  • Third highest individual score in T20Is
  • Highest individual score in T20Is versus India
