BCCI president Roger Binny has been served with a conflict of interest notice by the BCCI ethics officer Vineet Saran. Previously, many former cricketers, including the likes of Sourav Ganguly Sachin Tendulkar to Rahul Dravid, have been served with the same notice in the past and now BCCI’s newly appointed President has been asked for an explanation.
According to PTI, Vineet Saran has asked Roger Binny to file a written response by December 20 against the conflict of interest allegations leveled against him. As per the reports, the complainant named — Sanjeev Gupta has alleged that Roger Binny is conflicted as his daughter-in-law – Mayanti Langer – works for Star Sports, which has home season media rights for Indian cricket.
For the unversed, Mayanti Langer, who is married to Roger’s son Stuart Binny, works as a Star Sports broadcaster and anchor. She is one of the most popular cricket anchors around the world.
A member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, Roger Binny had become the 36th BCCI president in October, replacing former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Jay Shah retained his position as the board’s secretary while Arun Singh Dhumal took over as the chairman of IPL.
“You are hereby informed that a complaint has been received under Rule 39(2)(b) of the Rules and Regulations of BCCI by the Ethics Officer, BCCI for breach of Rule 38 (1) (i) and Rule 38(2) of the said rules, constituting an instance of “conflict of interest” on your part.
“You are directed to file your Written Response to the accompanying complaint on or before 20/12/2022. The said response should be supported by a duly executed affidavit,” wrote Saran in the notice dated November 21.
Roger still has nearly 3 weeks to reply to the ethics officer’s notice.
