Shubman Gill

A tweet is going viral on social media in the name of umpire Richard Kettleborough wherein the user has apologized to India batter Shubman Gill for his contentious decision of giving the opener out in India’s second innings of the World Test Championship Final 2023.

In the same, the presumed Umpire Kettleborough has said that he was bribed by the Australians and that he’s effectively immediately announcing his retirement from umpiring.

On third umpire duties, Kettleborough gave a controversial catch by Cameron of Gill as out on Day 4 at The Oval.

Shubman edged pacer Scott Boland in the slip. Green, standing at gully, leapt down from gully with his left-hand scooping up the ball. In his movements of taking the catch, Green’s hand brushed the grass and he was on the ground.

The talking point was regarding whether the ball brushed the ground, and whether Cameron Green was in “complete control” over the catch and his body when his hand was on the ground. Kettleborough adjudged the catch as clean and gave Gill out.

This led to a furore on social media and among experts, fans and ex-cricketers explaining their opinions.

Soon, this tweet went viral with the user posing as Umpire Kettleborough

“I apologise for the decision I made !! I confess that Cricket Australia paid me 50 Million Dollar to give a decision in their favour when India comes to bat. I apologise to @BCCI and Mr.@ShubmanGill. I hereby announce myself retired as Umpire from international cricket.”
