Fact-Check: Did Virat Kohli Say No To Playing In ODIs?

Did Virat Kohli Say No To Playing In ODIs?: The Indian cricket team and South Africa team are all set to face each other in the upcoming thriller series in South Africa. The Indian team is expected to leave for South Africa from Mumbai on December 16, but before that, they have been put in a three-day mandatory quarantine in Mumbai.

While this was being considered as a golden opportunity for Virat Kohli and his men to conquer South Africa as India has defeated Australia in Australia, England in England, and if everything goes right in the upcoming tour they would defeat the Proteas in South Africa. No Asian country has been able to achieve this feat. But unfortunately, some dark clouds have surrounded that have put a lot of things in doubt.

Recently, the newly-appointed limited-overs skipper and Test vice-captain, Rohit Sharma suffered an injury and was ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa, starting from December 26.

BCCI via their official Twitter handle also confirmed that Rohit has been ruled out due to a left hamstring injury.

“Priyank Panchal replaces injured Rohit Sharma in India’s Test squad. Rohit sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday. He has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa,” the BCCI tweet stated.

Now only a day after this announcement, the fans received another disappointing news as it was learned that the Indian cricketer Virat Kohli will reportedly be missing the forthcoming ODI series against South Africa. Several reports claim that the Indian skipper has asked for some time off to celebrate his daughter Vamika’s first birthday. Vamika Kohli was born on January 11 last year, and Virat is planning a holiday with his family after the conclusion of the Test series, reportedly.

Social media has been buzzing with tweets and posts suggesting a possible rift between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli following the rent captaincy shift.

rohit missing tests. virat missing ODIs. im having doubts has board done this deliberately to keep both away so that issues are not escalated?
if true not right. virat missing bilateral odis which r not imp is still ok but making rohit miss tests is not.

Irony is that Indian cricket is running according Kohli and Rohit..

Rohit not playing test. Kohli not playing odi. Both of them playing only the format they captain. Coincidence?

Just sack both Virat and Rohit. These two won’t get along further. They’ll either way retire in 2-3 years
KL should lead in all formats. End of debate.

Meanwhile, a tweet from a sports editor, Sumit Ghosh has been going viral on the internet, wherein he wrote how Virat has not made any such request to the BCCI. He also asked the BCCI to come out and clear the confusion. He wrote:

“The news of @imVkohli not playing odi series in South Africa is absolutely nonsense and ridiculous. Kohli has not made any such request to the @BCCI. The board should come out and clear the confusion @SGanguly99 @JayShah”

Here, check out the Tweet:

However, there is no statement in those articles that states or proves that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli has asked for a break from the upcoming ODI series. While the BCCI confirmed Rohit’s injury and absence from the upcoming series, no official statement has been released by the BCCI so far on Virat.

In our opinion, we should wait for an official statement on these ‘speculations’ and shouldn’t come to any conclusion.
