Fact-Check: Will Rahul Dravid Attend BJP’s Meeting?

Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid, who is the head coach of the Indian national cricket team, rubbished all the reports that stated he will participate in a meeting of the BJP’s Yuva Morcha or the youth wing, in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh later this week.

Well, the reports started floating around the social media after Vishal Naheria, the BJP MLA from Himachal’s Dharamshala, claimed that former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid will also take part in the BJP Yuva Morcha meeting between May 12 and May 15. He had said:

“National Working Committee of BJP Yuva Morcha will be held in Dharamshala from May 12 to 15. National leadership of BJP and leadership of Himachal Pradesh will be involved. BJP National President JP Nadda… and union minister will also attend the session,” 

Vishal Naheria had said that the participation of Rahul Dravid would send a message to the youth of the stated that they could move forward not only in politics but also in other fields, such as sports He added:

“Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid will also participate in this. Owing to his success, a message will be given among the youth that we can move forward not only in politics but also in other fields.”

Meanwhile, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid has denied such reports, stating that the said report is ‘incorrect’. Dravid clarified the same to the news agency ANI. He said:

“A section of the media has reported that I will attend a meeting in Himachal Pradesh from May 12th-15th, 2022. I wish to clarify that the said report is incorrect,”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also denied such reports. Speaking to Hindustan Times, BCCI media manager Moulin Parikh revealed that Dravid had asked him to say that the story is ‘False’.
