Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played IPL 2024 match 10 in Bengaluru. Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to field first on a sluggish pitch. Virat Kohli continued his form from the Punjab Kings game and smashed 83 off 49 balls. Cameron Green scored 33 runs off 21 balls, while Dinesh Karthik finished with 20 off 8 balls. RCB batters struggled on a sluggish, dry wicket. KKR bowlers capitalised on the slower balls and hitting the back of the length. RCB batters managed to score 182 runs in 20 overs despite timing issues.
KKR openers got their side off to a flying start. Phil Salt hit 30 runs off 20 balls and Sunil Narine 47 off 22 balls. KKR managed to put on 86 runs in 6.3 overs. Shreyas Iyer got 39 runs off 24 balls to help KKR win, while Venkatesh Iyer struck 50 off 30 balls. KKR defeated RCB by 7 wickets and managed to register two on two wins in IPL 2024.
KKR is the first team to win away from home in IPL 2024. They also extended their Bengaluru victory run. They haven’t lost in Bengaluru against RCB since 2015. The pitch’s slowness made 182 seem like a decent target. But KKR openers proved everyone incorrect in the first six overs. Sunil Narine thrashed RCB bowlers in the powerplay, helping KKR chase it down easily. KKR defeated RCB tonight after a dominant performance.
Faf Du Plessis Drops A Massive Statement After Loss Vs KKR
At the end of the game, captain Faf fu Plessis talked about what went wrong in the innings. He talked about the slowness of the wicket and how it was difficult to hit the slower balls. He also talked about how the set batter Virat Kohli was finding it tough to play his strokes in the first inning. Du Plessis revealed that it was mainly due to the lack of pace in the wicket that they were struggling to get power into the shots.
Faf du Plessis said: “Strange one, first innings we thought that the wicket was two-paced, you could see that when the guys bowled the cutters, the guys really struggled. We thought it was a decent score knowing that it gets a little easier in the evening, there was a little bit of dew coming in. Looking at the way we batted in the first innings, even Virat was struggling to hit the ball due to the lack of pace. You can always say after the game, try one or two things but the way the two of them (Narine and Slat) batted, they put pressure on our bowlers. They hit strong cricket shots and pretty much took the game away. With Narine there, you can’t go to spin, you want to use pace upfront. That’s also a really good match-up for Salt and the way he plays. They were excellent, really broke the game in the first six overs.
Spinning options with Maxi and finger-spinning can be effective here, but at night there wasn’t too much spin, With left-hand, right-hand combination, it’s one of those things, you can bowl a spinner. We saw when Venky was playing, it felt like an easy hit against left-arm spin. Ideally you want someone who can spin the ball both ways but with the set-up of our team tonight, we didn’t have that option. (On Vyshak) Very good, he hasn’t had opportunities. We had a look in the first innings and thought about bringing in Karn Sharma. But we felt someone who could bowl really good slower balls is probably the most difficult bowler to face on this pitch. Dre Russ bowled 80% of his balls cutters. We took some learnings from that and he was the best bowler of the evening.”
