Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis has suggested that he could make a comeback to international cricket. Du Plessis mentioned that Cricket South Africa (CSA) is working on the team’s balance, and there’s a possibility he might be part of the squad for the T20 World Cup in 2024.

After declaring his retirement from Test cricket in 2021, Du Plessis wasn’t considered for ODIs and T20Is. Engaging in multiple T20 leagues globally, he is now in discussions with CSA regarding his potential return for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.

“I believe that I can return to international cricket,” Du Plessis told the broadcaster of Abu Dhabi T10 league.

“We have been speaking about this for the last couple of years. It’s just figuring out the balance of the T20 World Cup next year. It’s certainly something we have spoken about with the new coach.”

Despite reaching the age of 39 in July, Faf du Plessis is widely recognized as one of the fittest cricketers globally. He discussed the rigorous training he undergoes to maintain his fitness.

“I do a lot of hard work to ensure I look after my body to be able to play this brilliant game we love so much. When you do get a little bit older, you have to make sure you put in the work. Otherwise, the hamstring and other body parts do not work that well. There is a lot of fast running and a lot of stuff to make sure that level where you can play against the best players in the world,”

In his 50 T20 International appearances for South Africa, Faf du Plessis has accumulated 1528 runs at a striking rate of over 134, including one century and 10 half-centuries.
