Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis expressed that Virat Kohli is one of his favorite batting partners. Du Plessis admired Kohli’s infectious energy on the field.
Notably, Kohli and Du Plessis are set to return to action for RCB in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League. The duo had a successful partnership in the previous season, with Du Plessis scoring 730 runs and Kohli contributing 639 runs. Both players will play pivotal roles for the franchise as they aim for their first IPL title.
Faf du Plessis On His Bond With Virat Kohli
Speaking to Star Sports, Faf said:
“Batting is probably the other thing that the equally we click, you know, it is unbelievable batting with him. He’s one of my favourite guys to bat with. He brings out so much energy in me, like sometimes I feel like I’m fist bumping my glove through his hand because he gets so passionate. Him being out there in the middle, which is really infectious, the way he gives that energy, and I remember being in the opposition and how that really is,”
He added: “Let’s hope for that amount of energy, because it was like this guy is just always on. How did you manage it? So it’s really infectious, the same thing on the field, because, like catching balls, we are both very competitive, and I make sure we get those good catches for the team. So he’s really important to me in terms of the field. I think, indeed, so many things fast as a team. But fielding is, he said, so he sets the time for the energy on the field,”
Du Plessis also highlighted several common interests between the two players besides their love for the sport. He mentioned that they bond over fitness, fashion, food, watches, and their families. The skipper also acknowledged Kohli’s influence on his interest in watches and described both himself and Kohli as very particular about their dressing style, sharing a keen interest in fashion.
“We spend a lot of time in the gym together. We both love food. We both are really into our fashion – that’s another thing that we spend a lot of time talking about. The way we dress and what styles of clothes… We send each other pictures of outfits and stuff like that. We are very girly in that.”
Further, taking a dig at Kohli’s passion for watches, the Proteas cricketer added that being family men also helps them understand each other. He said:
“He has been a terrible influence on me when it comes to watches. But he’s got a real passion for watches. There’s just so many things. Obviously now, it’s family. I’ve got two daughters, he’s got a second child as well now. Our wives and kids, having them at similar ages, really connected on that front as well,”
Talking about Virat Kohli, he returned to India after the birth of his child, Akaay, and will soon join RCB in Bengaluru. The first match of the tournament will be between CSK and RCB at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on March 22, Friday.
