Punjab Kings beat Delhi Capitals by four wickets in their first match of IPL 2024, thanks to a solid half-century by Sam Curran.
Chasing 175 runs, Punjab Kings reached the target with four balls to spare. Sam Curran played a crucial innings, scoring 63 runs off 47 balls, including six fours and one six. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Curran anchored the innings for Punjab.

Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow, the openers, were dismissed early in the innings after adding 34 runs together. Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma fell quickly, leaving Punjab Kings in a tough spot at 100 for 4 in the 12th over.
In the first innings, Abhishek Porel played a crucial innings, helping DC bounce back from a difficult situation to reach a respectable total of 174 for 9 in their 20 overs.
David Warner (29), Mitchell Marsh (20), Shai Hope (33), and Rishabh Pant (18) all made promising starts but failed to convert them into big scores. With Ricky Bhui (3) also falling cheaply, DC found themselves struggling at 111 for 5. Even after Tristan Stubbs (5) and Axar Patel (21) couldn’t provide stability, Abhishek Porel’s brilliant knock rescued DC from a precarious position. Porel’s unbeaten 32 off just 10 balls, including three fours and two sixes in the final over, helped DC post a competitive total of 174 runs.
