Cricketers are judged by the fans for their performances on the field, as well as their personal character off it. Stylish India batsman KL Rahul recently won the adulation of fans with his charitable act.
Rahul, known for his exquisite timing of hitting the cricket ball and his classical yet attractive batting, made a grand gesture that got the fans gushing about him. The opener has been reported to have donated a hefty amount of Rs 31 lakh for the treatment of 11-year-old Varad Nalawade, who is suffering from a rare blood disorder.
The young child, who is learned to be an ardent cricket fan and wishes to play the game at higher levels, needed 35 lakh for his treatment and that is when his father started a fundraiser.
“When I came to know about Varad’s condition, my team got in touch with GiveIndia so that we can help him in any way we could. I am glad that the surgery was successful, and he is doing well. I hope Varad gets back on his feet at the earliest and goes on to achieve his dreams. I hope my contribution inspires more and more people to come forward and help those in need,” KL Rahul was quoted as saying byInsidesport.
Varad underwent a bone marrow transplant soon after the needed money was collected and is said to be recovering well.
The child’s mother, Swapna, thanked the star India opener, saying that without Rahul’s donation, it wouldn’t have been possible for the family to pay for the surgery.
“We are thankful to KL Rahul for donating such a large amount for Varad’s surgery. But for him, it would have been impossible to carry out the bone marrow transplant in such a short period of time. Thank you, Rahul,” said Varad’s mother.
After the news of Rahul’s generous donation went viral on social media, fans lauded the splendid gesture by India’s limited-overs vice-captain.

KL Rahul has been ruled out of the Sri Lanka T20I and Test series due to a hamstring injury that he had sustained during the ODI series against West Indies, which also ruled him out of the T20Is against West Indies. He will return to action during the IPL 2022 where the opener will be leading the Lucknow franchise.
