Fans React After BCCI Confirms Rohit Sharma As India’s T20I Captain

Last updated:

Ahead of Virat Kohli’s final project as the T20I captain of the Indian cricket team, an official of the BCCI confirmed that India’s vice-captain Rohit Sharma will be taking over the responsibility of captaincy in the shortest format of the game after the conclusion of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021.

On Tuesday, talking to InsideSport, a BCCI source confirmed: “It’s no secret who is going to take over. Rohit Sharma has been in the leadership group and will take over from Virat after T20 World Cup. An official announcement will be made after the World Cup”

It was last year, before the start of the UAE leg when the Indian skipper Virat Kohli announced his decision to step down from the position of the captaincy of the shortest format of the game, citing workload management issues. However, he wished to continue to work on his skills as a batsman and will hopefully be seen back in his supernatural form in the upcoming months. Announcing his decision, Kohli had said:

“I’ve decided to step down as the T20 captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October… Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all three formats and captaining regularly for the last five to six years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian team in Test and ODI cricket,”

Meanwhile, ever since Virat Kohli made the big announcement, fans were eagerly waiting for Rohit Sharma to take over the captaincy. Now as the BCCI confirmed the news, fans were delighted with the news.
