The 2nd T20I match between hosts Sri Lanka and India, which was due to be played today (on July 27), has been postponed by a day after Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya tested positive of COVID-19. Krunal’s positive test result came not too long before the scheduled start of the play today.
Following the Rapid Antigen tests conducted on the same day of the game, Pandya returned a positive result. Eight other members of the Indian contingent have so far been identified as close contacts. Both the teams have been asked to isolate themselves in their hotel rooms.
The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah was quoted by PTI as saying most of these contacts were players. “The reports will come in the evening (around 6 pm) and if everyone is in the clear, we can have the match on Wednesday. Maximum among the eight close contacts who are also in mandatory isolation are players.”
Earlier before the news of Krunal Pandya testing positive for COVID-19 broke, a BCCI press statement confirmed that “the entire contingent is undergoing RT-PCR tests today to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad”.
BCCI also confirmed the news and wrote: “NEWS : Krunal Pandya tests positive.
Second Sri Lanka-India T20I postponed to July 28.
The entire contingent is undergoing RT-PCR tests today to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad.”

This malady should stop. If the infected person and all around him/her are vaccinated and asymptomatic, sport should just carry on. It is time for a revised SOP for newly detected cases in sporting bubbles.

But weren’t they in bio bubbles? If they were to breach the bubbles then why quarantine for so many days. Should the bubbles made even more strict?

Even if others have caught the virus, it won’t show till a week. Stop fooling people & stop risking the world for this betting ridden fraud non-sport.
