India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad copped heavy spite from fans on social media on Sunday after a video of him disrespecting a ground staff member went viral.

India and South Africa locked horns on Sunday evening at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, for the fifth and series-deciding T20I.

Although the toss happened at its scheduled time, the start of the game was delayed for about 50 minutes, and slashed to 19-over per side, because of the arrival of rain.

Ruturaj Gaikwad denies selfie to ground staff

Since Gaikwad and his opening partner Ishan Kishan had padded up, they had to be kept waiting for the start of the game. During the rain break, Gaikwad was seen sitting in the dugout with his pads and helmets on when a member of the ground staff came to him, sat beside him and tried to click a selfie.

However, Ruturaj Gaikwad scornfully pushed him away and gestured for him to go away and then turned his head in the other direction. Even after that, the innocuous worker urged the Indian opener for a selfie which Gaikwad still didn’t grant him and seemingly kept asking him to go away.

This 15-second video was telecasted by the broadcasters and one fan uploaded it on Twitter.

Here, check out the video:

Meanwhile, on the field, Gaikwad had a poor outing with the bat as, despite knowing that it’s a rain-curtailed game, the right-hander went at a pedestrian rate – scoring 10 runs off 12 balls and fell to Lungi Ngidi’s slower ball.

Batting in place of the injured KL Rahul and the rested Rohit Sharma, Gaikwad didn’t make his opportunities count – finishing the 5-match series with only 96 runs.
