Former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis has been receiving flak from angry fans on social media, because of his communal rant after the recently-held India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match on Sunday. His insensitive and nonsensical remarks didn’t go down well with the fans.

For the unversed, following India’s defeat, during a talk show, Waqar Younis made an insensitive statement. He said: “Mohammad Rizwan offering namaz in front of Hindus was very very special for me”.

His statement centered around Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan offering namaz during the drinks break in India vs Pakistan clash. In no time, the objectionable remark had created a stir on social media. From fans, pundits, and former cricketers, everyone took to their Twitter to slam the former Pakistani pacer for trying to create a rift with his insensitive statement.

After receiving a lot of backlash on social media, Waqar Younis has finally issued an apology, where he claimed that those words came out of his mouth in the heat of the moment. He wrote:

“In the heat of the moment, I said something which I did not mean which has hurt the sentiments of many. I apologise for this, this was not intended at all, genuine mistake. Sports unites people regardless of race, colour or religion. #apologies,”

Here, check out the Tweet:

In the heat of the moment, I said something which I did not mean which has hurt the sentiments of many. I apologise for this, this was not intended at all, genuine mistake. Sports unites people regardless of race, colour or religion. #apologies ??

Meanwhile, the tweet went viral in no time and was flooded with mixed reactions from the fans. While there were many who were ready to make peace with the apology, on the other hand, many users slammed him for crossing his line in the head of the moment.

Here, check out the reactions of Twitterati on this:

It wasn’t “in the heat of the moment”. It was a well thought statement given to promote radical Islam and attack Hindus. You are disgraceful human being, Waqar Younis.

What heat of the moment? You were sitting in the studio answering a question calmly without any interruption.

Can you ever say anything against own reIigion in the heat of the moment? No. Never. Whatever you said is the deep rooted ingrained prejudice which came out in open.

Heat of the moment happens during an argument. You were talking in total ease.

Admit that you believe in the ideology you’re accused of.

Ohh you meant every word of it. There was no heat there, you guys were rejoicing the victory. Stop this fake brotherhood, now that your masks are falling off ??

App log ki waje se hum pe ungli urti. Mai hindustani hoon. Haa mai hindu bhai ke beech namaz parta hoon. Mere hindu bhai hamari madat karte hai. App log ke jaise nahi hai. Har mazab me ache aur bore log hai. App un me se.

What was in your heart came out as words. But saying this on public television???Disappointed that despite living in a multicultural city like Sydney, Castle Hill, your mindset didn’t change.

— Krushna (@govindagopala) October 27, 2021

Can we please keep all acts of religious worship away from stadium pitches? Pray all you want in the dressing room.

— Faizan Javed ? (@faizanj) October 26, 2021

Sorry. I don’t accept your apology. What damage you have caused idiot like you will not understand. In India thousands of muslims play for clubs owned by the Hindus. Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and Mohammad Azharuddin led the country.

— Makarand Waingankar (@wmakarand) October 27, 2021

Gah! In the heat of the moment is when one shows the real character. This apology is fake. That naked display of bigotry, was real.

— Abhishek Singh (@abhishekprelog) October 26, 2021

The Waqar Younis I’ve seen on commentary and on TV for the last 15 years would’ve never said anything like that. I’m glad you’ve wholeheartedly apologised.

— Ammar. (@Ammar_AliKhan) October 26, 2021

What heat of the moment? That was a well thought statement that you said with a sadistic smile on your face. And not just you, but shame on Shoaib Akhtar as well, who was a part of that show but didn’t flinch after listening to your bs! Keep your apology in your pocket now!
