The 23-year-old Indian leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was not included in the provisional 15-man squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday, April 30, for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The 2024 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States from June 1 to June 29. Notably, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will feature a historic first with 20 teams participating in the competition. This expansion reflects the growing popularity and global reach of T20 cricket on the international stage.
Fans Slammed BCCI For Ignoring Ravi Bishnoi From T20I World Cup 2024 Squad
Ravi Bishnoi made his T20I debut for India in February 2022 and has since become a regular fixture in the team. He has been impressive, taking 36 wickets in just 24 matches at an average of 19.52. Bishnoi’s economy rate stands at 7.50, and he has a striking rate of 15.6, with his best bowling figures being 4/16. These statistics highlight his effectiveness and contribution to the Indian team in T20Is.
Ravi Bishnoi reached No. 1 in the ICC T20I bowler rankings in December but has since dropped to 5th with 659 rating points, tied with Maheesh Theekshana. In IPL 2024, he struggled for Lucknow Super Giants, taking 5 wickets in 9 matches at an average of 45.00, with an economy of 8.77. His poor form likely contributed to his exclusion from India’s T20 World Cup squad, which includes 4 other spinners: Jadeja, Axar, Kuldeep, and Chahal.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to his social media after team’s announcement and expressed his disappointment over Bishnoi’s absence. He wrote: “If I am Sitting pretty at 6th (5th) in the ICC T20i rankings, but not in the World Cup lineup, it’s a tough pill to swallow. #Ravibishnoi,”
