After having a thunderous start to his international career, England star batter Harry Brook came to the IPL 2023 with plenty of expectations from SRH and its fans, and a hefty price tag of INR 13.25 crore that he was bought for in the IPL 2023 auction by SRH.

Fair to say, the 25-year-old prodigious England batsman hasn’t lived up to the billing yet.

In two matches, Harry Brook has managed scores of 13 (21) when he was bowled by Rajasthan Royals‘ Yuzvendra Chahal, who outfoxed the Englishman with a sharp googly that rattled his stumps, in Hyderabad, followed by 3 (4) against Lucknow Super Giants as Ravi Bishnoi had Harry Brook stumped out with a leg-break after setting him up with googlies.

For all of Harry Brook’s success and aggressive batting in Test cricket around the world, the 25-year-old 29 international matches across the three formats, hadn’t been tested on turning pitches and against quality spinners like Chahal and Bishnoi before the IPL.

While this remains a key learning experience for young Harry Brook, perhaps SRH and its fans would want the batter to deliver more on the promise and the high price tag that SRH shelled out for him in the auction.

Meanwhile, the SRH batters floundered on the slow, low, and turning pitch in Lucknow against the LSG spinners. The spin trio of Krunal Pandya, Amit Mishra, and Bishnoi took 7 wickets of the 8 wickets that fell of SRH batters.

Rahul Tripathi was the highest scorer for SRH, scoring 35 runs followed by opener Anmolpreet Singh, who scored 31, as SRH managed only 122/8 in their 20 overs.

Speaking about the pitch in Lucknow in today’s match, and the dismissal of Harry Brook, Ravi Bishnoi said: “It was a tough wicket for batters. Our bowlers bowled well according to the conditions. It is a dicey score. We will look to finish it well and early. I knew Brook will step out. I was ready as he had stepped out earlier in the over. I thought I will trick him with a leggie.”
