One of the best in the business when dealing with words, it seems that even Harsha Bhogle got it a bit wrong while praising the India captain Rohit Sharma.
On a Cricbuzz Live show ahead of the IPL 2024, Harsha Bhogle was speaking about Rohit’s leadership during the World Cup. In trying to emphasise his point, though, the veteran commentator made a comment saying “forget what happened on 19 November”. This hasn’t gone down well with the fans as India lost the World Cup final of all matches, the scars of which are still hurting the fans.
Harsha Bhogle was discussing the sequence of events that led to Hardik Pandya becoming the captain of the Mumbai Indians between the World Cup and the IPL 2024 auction. Pandya got traded into MI from Gujarat Titans and was immediately given the captaincy, bringing an end to a decade-long successful stint of Rohit Sharma as MI captain, where he won them five IPL trophies.
Harsha Bhogle said: “The call [between Hardik and MI] I suspect originated before the World Cup. But before the World Cup, you didn’t know that Rohit Sharma was going to galvanise the side into playing the most thrilling one-day cricket that I have ever seen India play. Forget what happened on November 19 – India played the most thrilling cricket, and Rohit Sharma just rose and rose as a leader.”
