The pre-tour worries of the fans and the management about the ability of Shreyas Iyer to survive and score runs on the South African pitches against the tall South African bowlers have only aggravated as the series has progressed.

After scoring 37 runs across 2 innings in the Centurion Test, Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the second Test in Cape Town. He was dismissed by Nandre Burger.

While it was Jansen who got him in the second innings in Centurion, this time, in Cape Town, it was the other left-arm South African seamer, Nandre Burger, who got rid of the India number 5.

It was lifter from Burger – a back-of-length delivery to which Iyer looked to defend, but the ball seamed away just a little and took the bat’s outside edge. Wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne pouched an easy catch to send Iyer back to the dressing room without opening his account.

This is Shreyas Iyer’s only third Test match in a SENA country. Across five innings in England and South Africa, Iyer has scored only 71 runs. This is a major worry for India as they would want Iyer to rectify his issues on pacy surfaces before touring Australia for a 5-Test series later this year.

Shreyas Iyer copped a lot of trolling with funny memes on social media after his duck in Cape Town:

Earlier, Mohammed Siraj ran riot through the South African batting order with his sensational bowling effort of 6/15 in 9 overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar took two wickets each as India bowled South Africa out for only 55 runs.

At Tea on Day 1, India have taken a lead of 56 runs, and have lost four wickets. Virat Kohli has looked good so far, cracking 4 fours in his first 27 balls.
