An exciting innovation has emerged in the WBBL and the men’s BBL this year with the introduction of the Electra Stumps, which is an upgrade even on the LED stumps.
Over the past few years, Cricket Australia and the BBL have made significant efforts to make BBL the second most watched T20 league in the world. While they couldn’t procure the services of some of the best T20 players in the world, including and majorly the Indian players, the CA has resorted to making interesting rule changes and now the introduction of the Electra Stumps has piqued the interest of the viewers.
On Friday, in the Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers games, the Electra Stumps made their debut in the men’s BBL, after having already featured in the Women’s BBL earlier.
While the usual LED stumps only lit up the bright red color whenever disturbed, these stumps would showcase different colors at different times, such as a no-ball, a dismissal, a boundary, and even during the change of overs.
Former players Michael Vaughan and Mark Waugh, both of whom part of the BBL commentary team, unveiled this new set of stumps on Friday.
What different colors are used in the Electra stumps in BBL?
1. Out – Stumps will flash red and then fire colour
2. Boundary (four) – Colour shift (all colours flash in alternate pattern)
3. Six – All colours move upwards
4. No-ball: Red and white lights scroll along the stumps
5. Between overs: A pulse between the purple and blue scroll
Vaughan and Waugh gave a video demonstration of the features of this new variety of stumps, which you can check out in this video.
