Medium pacer Joginder Sharma, who dismissed Misbah-ul-Haq to complete India’s thrilling victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup Final, has announced his retirement from all forms of the game on Friday, February 3rd.
The 39-year-old from Rohtak, Haryana, represented India in 4 ODIs and as many T20Is between 2004 and 2007, taking a total of 5 wickets.

The 2007 T20 WC final vs Pakistan was the last game he played for India, but had a major role in India winning the title in the last over.
“My journey from 2002-2017 has been the most wonderful years of my life for it was an honour representing India at the highest level of sport,” Joginder said in a statement. “To all my team-mates, coaches, mentors and support staff: It has been an absolute privilege to have played with you all, and, I thank you all for helping turn my dream into reality.
“I am excited to announce that I will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket & the business side of it, where I will also continue to participate in the sport that I love and challenge myself in new and different environment. I believe that this is the next step in my journey as a cricketer and I look forward to this new chapter in my life.”

While his India career was short-lived, Joginder Sharma featured in 77 first-class games, picking up 297 wickets, 115 wickets in 80 List-A matches and 61 wickets in 63 T20 matches. He also scored 2804 first-class runs and 1040 List-A runs.

He played for CSK in the first four IPL seasons, where he picked up 12 wickets in 16 matches.
Joginder last played domestic cricket in 2017, for Haryana in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Last year, he featured in the Legends League Cricket for Gujarat Giants, but couldn’t pick a single wicket in 4 matches.

While still an active cricketer, Joginder joined the police department in his home state of Haryana, and now serves as a deputy superintendent of police.
