Former Indian Cricketer Slams India’s Decision Of Giving Captaincy To Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah, who recently led the Indian cricket team in the final Test match against England, has been receiving mixed reviews for his captaincy stint, but mostly positive. Bumrah was named the captain of team India after regular captain Rohit Sharma failed to recover in time from COVID-19.

Jasprit Bumrah Left A Mark With Both Bat And Ball

Jasprit Bumrah, who was leading a team for the first time in his career, did a commendable job and made a mark with both bat and ball. He picked up five wickets in the game and also scored an unbeaten 32 in the first innings. His stunning knock in the first innings helped him make a world record as he smashed Stuart Broad for the most expensive over in the longest format of the game.

Talking about his captaincy stint, he was impressed with his field placements and bowling changes. Though, the result wasn’t the one that everyone expected, but cricketers and experts have rated his captaincy very well.

However, Jasprit Bumrah has failed to impress Karsan Ghavri. Well, the former Indian pacer has come down hard on Bumrah’s captaining, saying not every fast bowler can be a good captain.

Karsan Ghavri, who picked up 452 wickets from 159 First-Class matches for Mumbai and Saurashtra, has slammed India’s decision of giving captaincy responsibility to Bumrah, who had never captained any team at any level. He said:

“Bumrah has never captained any team. Forget about a Ranji Trophy team, he has not even led a club side. Look, a captain’s mind is totally different. He needs to keep thinking about making field placements and effecting bowling changes and strategising throughout. In the dressing room, I’m sure [head coach] Rahul Dravid and the other coaches made a lot of plans, but when the 11 players go onto the field, the captain must execute them. Bumrah couldn’t do that,”

Further, Karsan added that if Rohit didn’t recover on time, former captain Virat Kohli should have stepped up to take the responsibility. He said:

“When Rohit Sharma was not available for this Test [having tested positive for COVID-19], Kohli should have stepped up and said that I will take up the responsibility to lead this team. Winning and losing is a part of the game, but in such a difficult situation, I felt Kohli should have put his hand up,”
