Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir revealed that the dressing room award ceremonies for best fielder used to happen in his time as well, but it didn’t get highlighted as there was no boom of social media in those times.
The Team India’s ‘Best Fielder of the match’ medal ceremony has gained a huge attraction among the players and fans on social media in the ongoing World Cup 2023.
The fielding coach T Dilip has found various ways to announce the ‘Best fielder of the match’ medal winner among the Indian players in the World Cup which has kept the cricketers and the fans enthusiastic.
India’s highest scorer in the 2011 World Cup final, Gautam Gambhir, disclosed that such recognition used to be given during his time as well in the dressing room. But, he pointed out, since there were no social media masses in those days, it was not videoed.
“These traditions existed earlier as well. Because of social media, you get to watch a lot of content these days – what is happening in the dressing room, what kind of celebrations are taking place. This was not the case earlier because so much content was not available on digital media. During our times as well, the best fielders used to get medals and were rewarded. The best bowler and Player of the Match was also rewarded,” Gautam Gambhir said on Sportskeeda.
He added that similar dressing-room traditions are now a regular feature in the IPL as well.
“All these things used to happen earlier as well. But because stuff never came out, people did not know about it. Today, things are out in the open. Earlier, a lot of things were confidential. In the IPL as well it happens, where the Player of the Match is different from the dressing room’s Man of the Match. These things are very normal and common,” he added.
India’s chances of winning the 2023 World Cup are high: Gautam Gambhir

With 8 wins in 8 games, India are the only unbeaten team in the tournament. They face the Netherlands on Sunday in Bangalore before a charged-up semi-final encounter against New Zealand in Mumbai.
Gautam Gambhir believes India have an even better chance to win the World Cup than they did in 2015 and 2019, both times when India were knocked out in the semi-finals.
Gambhir opined: “India’s chances of winning the 2023 World Cup are high, even better than in 2015 and 2019. This team possesses all the elements needed to clinch the World Cup. If they fall short, it would be a significant disappointment.”
