Former India batsman Gautam Gambhir said that the IPL has been the best thing that has happened to Indian cricket.
The IPL has become the bridge between domestic cricket and international cricket. Uncapped Indian players are not overawed at the prospect of playing international cricket against international bowlers, because now they do it in the IPL for two months. Success for a youngster in the IPL is very crucial for judging his white-ball temperament going forward. The IPL has helped players rub shoulders with some of the best limited-overs players in the world and learn their tricks and trades.
Gautam Gambhir, who has captained the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two IPL trophies, was asked an interesting question on Sportskeeda. In the interview, the host asked Gambhir what if the BCCI didn’t start the IPL.
The 2011 World Cup winner said that it would have been the worst decision had the board not introduced the IPL.
Gambhir said, “I think it would have been the worst decision made by BCCI because IPL is the best thing that has happened to Indian cricket.”
Will Gautam Gambhir become India’s batting coach one day?

Gambhir, who was India’s top-scorer in the 2007 T20 World Cup final and the 2011 World Cup final, was also asked whether he sees himself taking up the job of becoming India’s batting coach some day.
The 42-year-old said he isn’t thinking about it at the moment.
Gambhir replied: “Too many things on my plate at the moment. I haven’t thought about it.”
Gautam Gambhir is currently involved planning for the KKR. Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, Gambhir was roped in as KKR’s mentor. He was the mentor of LSG in the last two IPL seasons, but now has returned to KKR. KKR have failed to reach the IPL playoffs in the last two seasons. In order to bring back glory, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise appointed Gambhir as their mentor.
