Gautam Gambhir Sparks A Huge Debate With His Statement On KL Rahul

It was the same old story for Punjab Kings as they once again failed to qualify for the playoffs in yet another season of the Indian Premier League. While the skipper KL Rahul failed to take his team into the playoffs but he impressed one and all with his stunning performances with the bat. Once again, he turned out to be one of the highest scorers in the tournament.

Several cricketers and experts have heaped praises KL Rahul’s stunning performances with the bat. Former Indian cricketer and world cup hero Gautam Gambhir has also joined the bandwagon and has lavished praises on the PBKS skipper.

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo lauded Rahul after witnessing his heroics against Chennai Super Kings, where he smashed a splendid knock of 98 in just 42 balls. His performance in the last match against Chennai Super Kings has made Gambhir realize the incredible potential the stunning opener has. Gambhir said:

If you can bat like this, why don’t you bat like this? And if he can bat like this, probably he has got more ability than Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. I am not saying it just because I have seen KL Rahul doing it today; he just has it. He has got more shots than anyone else in India. And he has shown it today,”

While Rahul has been receiving praises from all corners, on the other hand, he had also been subjected to criticism this campaign over his strike rate. He played the role of an anchor and was often seen refraining from having a go at the bowlers since the start while Mayank Agarwal took charge to accelerate the net run rate. He said:

“Just go play, man. Let the world cherish, not only India. Show this world your ability. When people talk about Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, probably people will talk more about you because you have got many more shots as compared to anyone else in India,”

Rahul is also expected to play a big role for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 where Rohit Sharma will most likely be his opening partner.
