Greg Blewett Feels That Rohit Sharma Is Not Suited To Play For Team India Anymore

Rohit Sharma is one of the most recognisable cricket players in the world. The Indian cricketing virtuoso has amazed spectators all around the globe with his extraordinary batting talents. The plot thickens, however, while discussing Rohit’s position as captain of the Indian cricket team. Rohit’s finest results as India’s captain came while he was filling in for Virat Kohli, who had previously held the position, namely in the 2018 Nidahas Trophy tri-series and Asia Cup. Rohit’s record as captain and leader for India has been unremarkable since he took up the position full-time. Because of this, many are questioning Rohit Sharma’s fitness to head the Indian cricket team.

The Indian cricket team’s lacklustre showings under Rohit’s captaincy are impossible to overlook. Fans were dismayed when their team lost in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup and the Asia Cup last year. It’s safe to assume that BCCI officials are having doubts about Rohit’s ability to lead as captain.

Is Rohit Sharma the Right Choice to Captain India?

Greg Blewett Feels That Rohit Sharma Is Not Suited To Play For Team India Anymore

Greg Blewett, a former Australian opener, has raised some serious concerns about Rohit’s leadership with the team’s administration and the BCCI. During a conversation on the WillowTalk Podcast, Blewett stated his opinion that Rohit is not the best person to lead India. After the team’s poor showings at previous ICC events, he was also surprised that Rohit was still serving as captain. Blewett thinks Rohit is not qualified to manage India, and that the country has no chance of winning the World Cup with him at the helm.

“I am worried about India’s ODI captain. I really am. Rohit Sharma is just clinging on, and I would have thought that India might have made a move by now on the one-day leadership. I just can see it going wrong again for India. They always get to these World Cups and they just don’t get it done and I’m just not sure that Rohit is getting it done for them,” he siad.

After Rohit Sharma, who else could it be? While Rishabh Pant, another youthful option, is sidelined with an injury, KL Rahul is having a hard time breaking into the Test lineup. Shreyas Iyer struggles with the short ball, while Hardik Pandya’s physique can’t take the beating of all three forms. With no clear answers in sight, you may be thinking about Rohit’s predecessor, Virat Kohli. However, Kohli may have moved on from the post of captain since he did not take over while Rohit was absent, such as in the fifth rescheduled Test between India and England last year.

Blewett isn’t sure what the problem is, but he is convinced that Rohit has lost his rightful spot in India’s starting lineup. Blewett has lost so much faith in Rohit’s batting that he thinks the only reason he is still in India’s Playing XI is because he is the captain.

“Virat as leader? I think he is done and I don’t know whether you can go back to him now. I don’t know, I just see that Rohit is just hanging by a thread. He is getting a game at the moment because he is captain. And I don’t know whether that’s the right way to go,” added Blewett.

Cricket fans remain sharply divided over whether or not Rohit Sharma should lead the team as captain. His skill at bat is indisputable, but whether or not he is a good leader is up for debate. With another World Cup on the horizon, the BCCI’s decision-makers will have to carefully examine their alternatives and determine whether or not a change in leadership is essential to boost India’s performance.
