Harmanpreet Kaur Has No Regrets Over Her Actions
Yes, for the first time since that incident, Harmanpreet Kaur has finally opened up about her actions. Kaur stated that she has no regrets for her actions claiming that a player has all the right to express herself. Speaking to ‘The Cricket Paper’, Harmanpreet said:
“I will not say that I regret anything because at the end of the day as a player you want to see that fair things are happening. As a player you always have the right to express yourself and what you’re feeling,”
She added: “I don’t think I said anything wrong to any player or any person. I just said what happened on the field. I don’t regret anything,”
What was the controversy?
For the unversed, an ugly controversy erupted during India Women vs Bangladesh Women 3rd ODI in Dhaka as the Indian women’s team’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur lost her cool and smashed the stumps in anger. The incident became one of the most talked about topics in the cricketing industry.
During the India Women vs Bangladesh Women’s 3rd ODI in Dhaka, Harmanpreet Kaur was given a leg-before-wicket by umpire Tanvir Ahmed. However, the Indian captain wasn’t happy with the decision and argued with the umpire before leaving the field. Harmanpreet even hit the stumps and directed some angry words toward the umpire as she walked back to the pavilion. On her way back, she even showed a thumbs-up to the celebrating crowd.
Later after the game, Kaur termed the umpiring standards as pathetic. She slammed the umpires and had said:
“They (Bangladesh) batted really well, batted according to the situation. They were taking those singles which were very crucial. In between, we leaked a few runs but we controlled the game very well when we were batting, but as I mentioned earlier, some pathetic umpiring was done.”
She added: “We are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires,”
Because of her actions, Kaur was fined 75 percent of match fees for her scuffle with the umpires. She was also given four demerits points for her behavior.
