Harsha Bhogle Explained Why Appointing Ajit Agarkar As Chairman Of Selection Committee Is A Good Move

The Board of Control of Cricket (BCCI) on Tuesday appointed Ajit Agarkar as the chairman of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee. After interviewing several candidates for the position the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) unanimously decided to appoint Agarkar as the chairman.

BCCI via an official release announced the big news. The official release said:

“The former India all-rounder represented the country in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is, in addition to playing 110 first-class, 270 List A, and 62 T20 matches. As a former fast bowler, he was part of India’s victorious squad in the inaugural T20 World Cup held in South Africa in 2007,” BCCI said in a release.

“He still holds the record for the fastest half-century by an Indian batter in ODI, achieved with a 21-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in 2000. He also held the record for being the fastest to reach 50 ODI wickets for nearly a decade, accomplishing the milestone in just 23 matches,” the release added.

For the unversed, the position of the chairman was vacant ever since Chetan Sharma stepped down from the position after a sting operation carried out on him by a TV channel landed him in some big trouble.

The appointment of Ajit Agarkar comes at a crucial juncture as the Indian cricket team is currently recovering from the humiliating defeat at the World Test Championship Finals and is preparing for the ICC World Cup 2023 in October-November.

Meanwhile, popular commentator and cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle, who is hailed as the ‘voice of cricket’ in India, took to his social media and showered praise on Agarkar. Bhogle explained how appointing Agarkar as the chairman is a good move. He wrote:

“I will tell you one thing about Ajit Agarkar as selector. He will be diligent and honest. He might have strong opinions but they will come from a position of strength. I think it is a very good move.”
