Harsha Bhogle Praised Two Uncapped Indian Speedsters: Chennai Super Kings pacer Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh provided a magnificent display of swing and seam bowling against the Mumbai Indians batting line-up at the Wankhede Stadium.
Earlier it was the MI pacers who rattled CSK batters, bowling them out for 97. Taking a leaf out of their book, Choudhary and Simarjeet moved the ball prodigiously in the air and off the surface.
CSK needed a strong start with the ball in their defence of a low total, and Choudhary, the left-arm pacer who was sensational with a Man of the Match performance against MI in their previous meeting, struck straightaway – on the fifth ball of the first over he had Ishan Kishan edging through to MS Dhoni, dismissing the left-handed MI opener twice in two games.

Rohit Sharma, the MI captain, though, wasn’t in the mood to let down his guard and creamed four boundaries in a space of 10 balls. However, CSK pacers didn’t drop their shoulders. Simarjeet nipped out Rohit Sharma with a beautiful length delivery, taking a nick to Dhoni.
Choudhary then came storming back in his third over. First, a sharp inswinger did Daniel Sams for good failing to play his shot; trapped lbw, the Australian did go for a review but it was crashing into the sticks. Two balls later, IPL debutant Tristan Stubbs suffered the same fate as Sams, given out lbw to an inswinging delivery. Stubbs didn’t opt for a review as he realized he was plumb in front of the stumps.
Simarjeet also had the fifth MI wicket, Hrithik Shokeen given out edging down the leg side to Dhoni. However, the batsman immediately reviewed it and the decision was overturned as the ball had brushed his pad and not the bat.
Despite the powerplay being completed, Dhoni, looking at the movement both pacers were generating, decided to complete both of their quota of overs. Although they didn’t pick any more wicket, Choudhary and Simarjeet kept things tight to give CSK a lifeline in the game. Choudhary finished with figures of 3/23 and Simarjeet with 1/22.
Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle tweeted in praise for both the CSK seamer, saying that while they were excellent with the new ball, some of the Mumbai batsmen also played some terrible shots.
“Much life in this game still .Mukesh Choudhary and Simranjeet have been excellent. But the #MI batting order and approach have been a bit baffling,” Bhogle tweeted.
