Harsha Bhogle’s 6-Year-Old Tweet About Shreyas Iyer Is Going Viral On Twitter

Harsha Bhogle is known as voice of cricket in India for a reason. Having covered cricket for so many years and watched so many generations of Indian cricketers, he has got that instinct to figure out if a young cricketer has got something special about him.

One such young cricketer whom Harsha Bhogle had tweeted about 6 years back in 2015 was Shreyas Iyer. It was at a time when Iyer hadn’t even cemented his spot in the domestic cricket of India. The national cricket team and IPL at that stage were a fair bit away from him.

But, Harsha Bhogle, in one of his tweets in 2015, had written that he was going to have a close look at the evolving career of Shreyas Iyer because he was showing great signs as a youngster.

As it turned out, Shreyas Iyer didn’t just emerge to cement his spot for India in white ball cricket and then in the IPL for Delhi Capitals, he has now gone on to play test cricket for India as well.

The 26-year old Mumbai batsman has become the first Indian batsman after Sunil Gavaskar to score a hundred and a fifty in his debut test match itself as he made two match defining contributions in two innings in the Kanpur test match to put India in a strong position against New Zealand.

Harsha Bhogle himself dug out his old tweet

Harsha Bhogle yesterday himself dug out his 6-year old tweet about Shreyas Iyer and quoted it saying “Look, what turned up”. He was quite clearly very happy about the fact that a youngster whom he rated very highly in the initial years of his career has now turned out to be a composed international cricketer who can win a lot of matches for India in future.

Shreyas Iyer is now most probably going to play the second test match against New Zealand in Mumbai as well, even though the Indian captain Virat Kohli is expected to return and take up his regular position in the middle order.
