Hashim Amla Breaks Virat Kohli’s Record Yet Again

Cricket LoungeBy Cricket LoungeUpdated:09/02/2023No Comments2 Mins Read

If there’s one saga that continues to enthral cricket fans worldwide, it is the one between Hashim Amla and Virat Kohli. The two superstar batsman have always been close to each other when it comes to their international records in the limited overs arena.

However, while Virat Kohli has managed to race ahead in terms of the total number of runs scored, Amla has always managed to find a way to keep up and break whatever record Kohli has with regard to the number of games it has taken to reach milestones.

Another record:

In the recently concluded game between South Africa and Bangladesh, Amla posted a masterful 110* along with Quinton De Kock as the Proteas chased down a formidable 278 runs without even losing a wicket.

Hashim Amla is also the fastest to reach 6000, 5000, 4000, 3000 and 2000 ODI runs,  having got to the landmarks in 123, 101, 81, 57 and 40 innings respectively.

Amla’s feat meant that he was the fastest to reach 26 centuries – Reaching the milestone in his 154th innings. Kohli however, took 166 innings to reach that number. This is not the first time that Amla has broken Kohli’s record though. The South African opener became the fastest to reach 7000 runs, taking only 150 innings compared to Kohli’s 169.

Needless to say, the next time Kohli breaks a record, Amla will almost definitely reach there with a better number. However, it is safe and a little cheeky to add that Kohli is the trendsetter while Amla manages to break Kohli’s records once they have been created.

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, has scored 30 ODI tons so far, equalling Ricky Ponting and only behind Sachin Tendulkar, who has 49 centuries to his name in ODIs.
