After missing the second Test against South Africa, India captain Virat Kohli returned for the third Test and was has been in action throughout so far.

He played a great, gritty knock in India’s first innings on Day 1 of 79 runs to take India to a total of 223. On Day 2, after India had been given the desired start via twin strikes from Jasprit Bumrah, Kohli was seen having a heated exchange with umpire Marais Erasmus after the umpire had warned pacer Mohammed Shami for running on the danger area.

Early in the first session on Day 2, Shami was given his first official warning by Erasmus for running on the danger area, the middle part of the pitch in front of the stumps, also known as the protected area. Umpires give warnings to any bowler and batsman who regularly run on that part to prevent the pitch from breaking down.

After Shami had breached that are on multiple occasions, Erasmus gave him his first warning. However, Kohli was unhappy when replays on the big screen showed that Mohammed Shami was marginal and on some occasions out of the danger area.

A displeased Virat Kohli went up to Erasmus for clarification and expressed his frustrations to the umpire.

Even a while after that, he was seen waving his hands and suggesting that Shami was within his limits on the landing area.

Meanwhile, the match hangs in balance at Lunch on Day 2. Bumrah castled Aiden Markram early in the first session after he had dismissed Dean Elgar late on Day 1. Keshav Maharaj showed resistance against the Indian seamers for his 25 runs before Umesh Yadav went through his defence.

Keegan Petersen and Rassie van der Dussen, though, stood defiantly after that and took South Africa to lunch further unscathed. The pitch hasn’t been easy to bat on and Indian bowlers would be looking to break open the South African batting line-up in the second session. Any first innings would be invaluable on this track.
