During the T20 World Cup last year in the UAE, Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan gave a special gift to Matthew Hayden, who was Pakistan’s batting consultant at the tournament.
Rizwan, who was supreme form with the bat last year, revealed that he gifted Hayden a translation of the Holy Quran.
In an interview that is doing the rounds on social media, Mohammad Rizwan revealed that during the tournament, Hayden had been impressed by the unity of the players and would observe the players when they used to pray in a group, and used to ask them questions regarding the same.
“Allah put the curiosity in his heart; he used to ask us questions on this subject,” Rizwan said. He added that during Pakistan’s match against arch-rival India, the player had a conversation with the Australian great.“I told Hayden that if it is written in destiny, we will win this match. If we haven’t worked hard then India will win.”
He said that he had asked a person to bring the Holy Quran. “When he brought it, I went straight to Hayden’s room and gave it to him as a gift. Matthew liked this gift very much. It is our duty in Islam to prefer for others what we like for ourselves,” the wicket-keeper added.
Reflecting upon his last conversation with the Australian, Rizwan said that Hayden had told him he often read the Quran which the Pakistani had given him. “When I spoke to him(Hayden), he said he often reads the translation of the Holy Quran,” Rizwan said.
