“I Don’t Speak To MS Dhoni…” – Harbhajan Singh

In the world of cricket, where camaraderie and shared victories often forge lifelong bonds, the recent admission by Harbhajan Singh about his relationship with MS Dhoni has stirred intrigue and curiosity among fans and followers alike. Harbhajan Singh, the former Indian off-spinner, shared with News18 that he no longer speaks to MS Dhoni, a revelation that contrasts sharply with their shared history of success, including two World Cup victories and multiple IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Harbhajan Singh and MS Dhoni’s cricketing paths crossed at pivotal moments in Indian cricket history. Their first major triumph together was the 2007 T20 World Cup, where Dhoni’s captaincy and Harbhajan’s bowling were instrumental in India’s victory. This was followed by the 2011 ODI World Cup win, where both played crucial roles, with Dhoni famously finishing the tournament with a six. Their association continued in the IPL with CSK, where they won multiple titles, showcasing a partnership that seemed unbreakable on the field.

However, as Harbhajan revealed, their off-field relationship has not mirrored their on-field synergy. “No, I don’t speak to Dhoni,” Harbhajan stated candidly. “I don’t have anything against him. If he has something to say, he can tell me. But if he did, he would have told me by now.” This statement opens a window into a personal dynamic that has evidently cooled over time.

Harbhajan further elaborated on their interactions during the IPL days with CSK, saying, “When I was playing at CSK, that’s when we spoke; but otherwise, we haven’t spoken. It’s been 10 years and more. I have no reason; perhaps he does. I don’t know what the reasons are. When we were playing in the IPL at CSK, that’s when we used to talk, and that too was restricted to the ground. After that, he did not come to my room, nor did I go to his.”

The former spinner’s comments also shed light on his approach to personal relationships. “I only ring up those who pick up my calls. I don’t have the time otherwise,” Harbhajan added, now engaged in commentary roles. “I stay in touch with the ones I am friends with. A relationship is always about give and take. If I respect you, I hope you will respect me back. Or you respond to me. But if I call you once or twice but don’t get a response, I will probably only meet you as much as I need to.”

Harbhajan Singh’s revelation about his lack of communication with MS Dhoni adds a layer of complexity to their storied cricketing relationship. While their professional achievements together will always be celebrated, the personal silence between them highlights the often unspoken boundaries that can exist even among teammates who have shared the highest highs of the sport. It’s a reminder that while cricket can bring people together in moments of glory, personal dynamics can follow a different script, one that is less visible but equally compelling. As fans, we continue to admire their contributions to cricket, hoping perhaps for a day when these two legends might reconnect, if not for cricket, then for the memories they’ve created together.
