India and Pakistan’s latest matchup in the ICC World Cup 2023 has inspired fierce action on the play and passionate debates about it. Mickey Arthur, Pakistan’s Director of Cricket, found himself in the limelight after India’s victory in this showcase match. Cricket enthusiasts and experts alike have taken notice of his provocative comments, including ICC Chairman Greg Barclay.
The enthusiastic cheering for the Indian cricket team was represented by a sea of blue at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. India’s 7-wicket triumph against Pakistan, powered by Rohit Sharma, had the crowd cheering for the Men in Blue as Pakistan battled to find their feet.
Mickey Arthur, Pakistan’s Director of Cricket, issued a comment after their stunning victory that baffled cricket fans. The contest, he claimed confidently, had the feel of a “BCCI event” rather than an ICC World Cup encounter. During the press conference after the game, he said: “It didn’t seem like an ICC event tonight – let’s be brutally honest. It seemed like a bilateral series or a BCCI event. I didn’t hear Dil Dil Pakistan coming through the mics too often. That does play a role, but I won’t use it as an excuse.” He was referring to the lack of vociferous support for Pakistan.
ICC Responds To Mickey Arthur’s Statement Of The World Cup Being BCCI’s Event
When asked about Mickey Arthur’s contentious remarks, ICC Chairman Greg Barclay said that criticism is normal and expected at any cricket event. At a recent event in Mumbai, Barclay stressed ICC’s willingness to incorporate fans’ and players’ suggestions into future iterations of the game. He said,“Every event that we have, there’s always criticisms from various quarters. Things that perhaps we’ll take away and try to work on, try to do better… so this event’s only [at] the start.”
Mickey Arthur’s statements are baseless. Rather than concentrating on the mistakes that the Pakistan team had made in the match, he chose to sway away the attention. This may have been an ICC event, but the home team is India. In a game against their arch-rivals, the home team will definitely come in large numbers, and give their vociferous support to India. They will try to make it very hard and put pressure on the away team. Moreover, till the time Pakistan don’t stop their dark antics, they deserve all this.
