As the T20 World Cup has already started and we are seeing the qualifiers present us with a string of impressive crackers, the battle of the stalwarts would be hitting the yard from the following week as Australia and New Zealand would be kickstarting the Super 12. This will be followed by the mega-blockbuster as India will go head-to-head against Pakistan in a crackling affair to light up Sunday in the flashiest of pyrotechnics.
With the showpiece event all set to roll in its majestic glory, a lot of talks already doing the rounds about the potential players who can adorn the tournament in their own blazing way. Here are the five potential candidates for scoring a century in the T20 World Cup.
#1 Virat Kohli
The kind of form that Virat Kohli is in the middle of, despite a string of reticent efforts straddling the ones where he glittered like gold, he would be a major game-changer for Team India. He has got his momentum rolling and we are all aware of the kind of brilliance that he has previously carved in Australia. As he finally got his 71st century, everyone would expect him to continue his terrific form and get a century.
#2 David Miller
One of the most menacing South African batters, David Miller is also in the form of his life. Ever since his return to IPL, Miller has laid absolute waste to his counterparts with a brand of aggressive cricket that has been very rarely matched. He would undoubtedly be a favourite to smash a century in this T20 World Cup.
#3 Suryakumar Yadav
This man should obviously be at the top of the list. There can’t be any better claim than him to the highest run-scorer in the tournament. A fine striker of the ball, Surya comes into the World Cup with an exciting arsenal of strikes where he can lay absolute waste to the bowlers. Add to it the 360 degree batting of the Mumbaikar and all you know that it would be raining boundaries Down Under, even a maybe a century or two.
#4 Jos Buttler
Returning from an injury last month, the English skipper is in phenomenal form and would be hoping to continue his decent run as the World Cup beckons. With the kind of dynamicity that he brings to the table, Buttler is simply a beast of the sport. He has immense power up his sleeves and his ability to swing the willow can put any bowler to shame. He would be an obvious contender for being one of the centurions, especially considering the fact that he opens the innings for England.
#5 Devon Conway
Martin Guptill will have his competition cut out as Devon Conway is on the rise. A fine player of the shortest format of the sport can be a major threat to any bowler in the world. He also seemed to be in fine touch in recent times and once again, since he comes at the top to bat, he has the time to get the runs coming.
