Who was Player Of The Tournament in ICC T20 World Cup 2021?

David Warner is someone who does not need an introduction. He won the prestigious Player Of The Tournament award back in the 2021 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup.

It was a win for the Aussie in silencing all his critics. Ever since he made his debut with the Aussies, he has been one of the pioneers of ushering an era of aggressive openers who go hammer and tongs right from ball one, and his number only go ahead and solidify that. 2684 runs in 91 T20Is, at a strike rate of almost 141, Warner has been the lynchpin and the fulcrum of this Australian side.

Why David Warner was the Player Of The Tournament in the iCC T20 World Cup 2021?

Warner managed a tally of 289 runs in the series for an average of 48.16, which helped Australia lift the title in the middle-east. He was brilliant with the bat and gave his team some much-needed positive starts.

At 35, David Warner has now gone from maverick and aggressive young gun to one of the leaders in the side, a person called upon to help and nurture the new crop of Aussies. Warner is someone who enjoys the big stage. A batsman who enjoys playing when there is a chip on his shoulders or when his back is against the wall. Case in point being the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup.

David Warner had a wretched time in the IPL preceding the tournament, where he was suffering from poor form and was then dropped for no rhyme or reason. He then stormed back into form in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, scoring 289 runs, and scoring a half-century in the final, enabling Australia to win their maiden T20 title, and also snapping up the Player of the tournament award.

Inspite of all this, David Warner finds himself in a position where he will have to still prove that he is top dog. At 35, Warner isn’t getting any younger. With Aaron Finch going through a lean run and the ever-growing shadow of Cameron Green looming massively in Australia’s grander scheme of things, Warner is currently in limbo.

He will once again have to prove himself, especially when the tournament will be played in front of a demanding home crowd. Warner will have the onus of providing a rollicking start up the order with whoever he will be paired with. Not that Warner has never been in this situation before.

He has come back stronger than ever in the same situations before. He is always fit, is looking in good Nick, and most importantly he’s well rested. Whether or not he makes a similar impact as last year in this tournament will be intriguing to see, but there is no denying the fact that David Warner always turns up in the biggest games, and this World Cup will be no different.
