If Not Mumbai Indians, I Want To Captain KKR: Rohit Sharma

For the first time since IPL 2013, Rohit Sharma finds himself playing under a captain other than himself in the IPL. Mumbai Indians (MI) made a significant decision ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction by stripping Rohit Sharma of the captaincy.

Instead, the team management entrusted the leadership role to Hardik Pandya. The star all-rounder previously captained Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 and 2023. This marks Pandya’s maiden stint as the captain of Mumbai Indians.

However, Pandya’s tenure as captain for Mumbai Indians has started poorly, with the team losing all three matches in IPL 2024.

Rohit Sharma’s Old Video Has Gone Viral

Numerous rumors have circulated regarding Rohit’s future with MI. The latest reports indicate that Rohit is dissatisfied with Hardik Pandya’s captaincy and is contemplating leaving Mumbai Indians before the next season.

A mega-auction is slated ahead of IPL 2025, and fans anticipate clarity on Rohit’s future with MI by the end of 2024. While some speculate Rohit might join CSK or RCB if given the chance, that’s not necessarily the case.

In a past interview, Rohit addressed the million-dollar question about the team he would aspire to captain other than MI. The Indian legend chose Kolkata Knight Riders, citing his special connection with the Eden Gardens. “Eden Gardens is my favorite ground, and a lot has happened for me there. So I would say KKR,” Rohit remarked.

Rohit’s significant triumphs at the Eden Gardens across international cricket, IPL, and domestic cricket make his choice of KKR unsurprising. The venue holds special memories, notably where he made history with his second ODI double-century, scoring 264 off 173 balls against Sri Lanka in 2014.

Additionally, Rohit led MI to their second IPL title win at Eden Gardens in 2015, and it’s where he debuted in Test cricket, marking it with a century and subsequent back-to-back tons against West Indies two years prior.
