IND vs AUS 2020: I Am Happy To Bat Wherever My Team Wants Me To, Says Rohit Sharma

Indian opener Rohit Sharma has been a fantastic white-ball player over the years. But last year, he also showed that he can be an excellent Test opener. Having hit three centuries and a double century in India’s previous home season. Rohit Sharma cemented his place at the top of the order in the longest format. However, he revealed that he is open to batting at any position that the team needs him to bat at.

“I will tell you the same thing that I have told everyone all this while. I will be happy to bat wherever the team wants me to but I don’t know if they would change my role as an opener,” Rohit Sharma told PTI in an exclusive interview.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be heading back to India after the first Test in Adelaide as he is awaiting the birth of his first child. This will create a selection dilemma as to who is ready to bat at No.4 in Kohli’s absence. Rohit Sharma stated that he is ready to bat at any position and that by the team he reaches Australia, the team management would have already come to a decision as to who will bat at No.4.

“I am sure the guys already in Australia must have figured out what are options when Virat leaves and who are the guys who will open the innings. Once I reach there, I will probably have a clearer idea of what’s going to happen. I will be okay to bat wherever they want,” he further added.

India will be touring Australia for three ODIs, followed by three T20Is and the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy consisting of four Tests. The first Test is set to be played at Adelaide on December 17 and will be a Day-Night Test played with the pink ball.
