3 hundreds, including a double hundred, in 4 innings. 23-year-old Shubman Gill is having the time of life, overshadowing, at least on the pitch, the greats of ODI cricket – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – with his splendid form, after having already pushed out another ODI great, Shikhar Dhawan, from the side.

After 21 ODI innings now, Shubman Gill averages 73 and he’s struck 1254 runs at a commendable strike rate of 109. Gill has cracked 4 centuries and 5 fifties (a total of 9 50+ scores) in his 21-innings ODI career.

The latest of his three-figure score came on Tuesday against New Zealand in Indore, where Gill and Rohit shared a mammoth opening partnership of 212 runs in only 26.1 overs.

Rohit Sharma ended his ODI century drought and slammed his 30th ODI century. His 29th ODI ton had come way back in January 2020, against Australia in Bangalore. This has been a long wait, of 16 innings, where Sharma has, on a number of times, shows glimpses of being in touch and even scored a few fifties. But failed to convert his good starts into a three-figure score.

Today, on another flat pitch that has been a common theme of India’s home season so far, and at the small-sized Holkar stadium in Indore, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made the most of the helpful conditions.

Taking the attack to New Zealand right from the onset of the innings, Rohit scored 101 runs in 85 balls with the help of 9 fours and 6 sixes, while Gill was even more aggressive: batting at a splendid strike rate of 143, the young opener whacked 112 runs in 78 balls, en route stroking 13 fours and 5 sixes.

Speaking of Shubman Gill’s belligerent knock, there were several eye-catching shots and moments from the youngster’s marvelous hundred.
