IND vs SA: What Happens If Rain Washes Out Series Decider In Bangalore?

IND vs SA: The Bangalore weather is threatening to play spoilsport for the fifth, and series-deciding, T20I between India and South Africa at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium, on Sunday evening as rain is forecasted on Sunday in the city.

South Africa won the first two matches in Delhi and Cuttack before Rishabh Pant’s side came romping back in the series with big victories in Vizag and Rajkot to set up an exciting grand finale to an entertaining series in Bangalore. In fact, this will be the first white-ball international game at the Chinnaswamy stadium since the pandemic broke out.

However, the build-up to the Bangalore game has been wet with the city experiencing showers in different parts in the last couple of days.

According to AccuWeather, rain is expected to delay the start of the game and perhaps could even intervene. This will leave the fans disappointed as they have been anticipating big runs on the flat track and bit-sized ground. There is 99 per cent cloud cover in the city at the time of writing and a heavy shower chance on Sunday.

What will happen if the match if IND vs SA is affected by rain?

No overs will be slashed down if the match begins even after an hour of the scheduled time. After that, though, about one over each, with adjustments in the change time between innings, will be deducted from the game for every four minutes.

According to international bilateral T20I rules, there should be a minimum of 5 overs to be played by each team to decide a result.

If this is not possible, then the match would be called abandoned and the series will finish at 2-2 with both teams sharing the trophy and the winning prize.

Team news:

Talking about the playing elevens of both the teams, India are unlikely to make any change to their winning combination from last two matches. South Africa, however, could be without skipper Bavuma who picked up an injury on his arm in the fourth T20I. If Bavuma is not fit, then he could be replaced by Reeza Hendricks and Keshav Maharaj will be the interim skipper.

Kagiso Rabada and Wayne Parnell, who missed the Rajkot game with niggles, could come back for Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi.
