IND vs SL: Jasprit Bumrah Suffers Ankle Twist While Bowling; Leaves The Field

The Indian team and their fans were given a major scare when Jasprit Bumrah bent his ankle while bowling in his first spell during Sri Lanka’s innings in the Super 4 match in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

As he did against Pakistan, Jasprit Bumrah started off fiercely in his opening new-ball spell in Sri Lanka’s innings, returning with figures of 5-1-21-2, taking the wickets of Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka early on to peg the hosts back in their chase of the 214-run target.

However, it was during his opening spell that he bent the ankle of his right leg in the follow through after a delivery. That happened in the first over of his spell itself that Jasprit Bumrah had an apparently horrific ankle twist in his follow-through.

However, thankfully, that was nothing serious, as it turned out. After a bit of look at it, Bumrah walked back to his bowling marker and bowling with full intensity. While the entire India would have had a mini heart-attack had anything happened to Bumrah’s ankle this close to the World Cup, soon everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

The images of this incident looked really concerning and horrifying though. He then left the field, but it to change something in his shoe and returned to bowl his spell.

But perhaps it isn’t all well with Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness as he immediately left the field after bowling his first spell. Dominic Cork in the commentary box noted that Bumrah had also left the field after his first spell against Pakistan last night. He was then seen with the physio as well.

Meanwhile, the India-Sri Lanka game is tantalizingly poised at the moment. On a pitch that was nothing like it was last night, India were bowled out for 213, Wellage taking 5 wickets and Asalanka taking 4 wickets. In reply, Bumrah and Siraj took the first three wickets before Kuldeep and Jadeja took the next three.
