India leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav is one of the best white-ball bowlers going around in the world currently.
He recently starred in the Asia Cup 2023 match against Pakistan where he returned with stunning figures of 5/25 in 8 overs. This was only his second five-wicket haul in 84 ODI matches in his career so far.
Kuldeep Yadav has seen both the highs and lows of international cricket. He burst onto the scene as a mystery chinaman in 2017 and for three years troubled all the batters in the world and was a key cog of the Indian team going into the 2019 World Cup.
From 2017 to 2019, he picked up 99 ODI wickets in 56 ODIs. However, he suffered a dip in the 2019 World Cup where he got dropped from the XI. That started a period of lull for Kuldeep, who also lost his place in the KKR XI and was released in 2021.
The three-year period was filled with struggles for Kuldeep Yadav. He was down on form and in 2022 also suffered an injury just when he was about to make his comeback. He took only 8 wickets in 9 ODIs in 2020 and 2021, and also went at an economy of over 6 runs per over.
Kuldeep Yadav’s resurgence started last in 2022 when he returned from a knee surgery. He took a 4-wicket haul against South Africa last year. In 2023, he’s seemed unstoppable.
In 2023 so far, he’s taken 27 wickets in 14 ODIs at a brilliant average of only 16 and a strike rate of 21.22 – both the best ever in a calendar year he’s managed since his debut – and is currently India’s top ODI wicket-taker in 2023.
Many are predicting Kuldeep Yadav to be the point of difference for India in the upcoming home World Cup 2023.
